Garbage Disposals

It takes care of the disgusting portions of washing dishes by hand, cleans up after meals, and makes trash easier to deal with by handling the scraps.  Unfortunately, garbage disposal abuse leads to malfunctioning, smelly, and broken disposals that make cleanup a problem.  So if your disposal has stopped working and is filling the kitchen with a funky smell, call Winstar.

Our team of licensed plumbers and master electricians is ready to get your disposal back in working order quickly.  If the sink works, and your disposal simply won’t run, call us and we’ll be there with same-day service.  If it’s more urgent – say, the sink is overflowing – give us a call, 24/7, and we’ll be there to help out.

What You Shouldn’t Pour Down the Disposal

Of course, the majority of disposal problems arise from misuse of the disposal.  People often think that having a high-quality disposal means you can send anything you want down the drain.  This is not the case, as several things will quickly lead to a damaged and funky-smelling sink drain.

Never allow these items to flow down the disposal:

  • Grease
  • Starchy Foods
  • Long-Fibrous Foods
  • Animal Bones

All of these items can lead to a damaged disposal.  Most of them will jam the mechanism and lead to a burned out motor.  Others, specifically grease, will cause problems throughout your drain system.  Grease congeals when it cools, eventually stopping up drains and blocking water flow.

Proper care for your disposal is also essential to its longevity.  Start running water before you turn on the disposal and allow the disposal to clear before you turn it off.  Only stop the water after you’ve turned off the disposal.

All of our work, electrical or plumbing, comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.  If you aren’t happy with the work we’ve performed, call us back and we’ll do everything we can to make it up to you.
